May the Succulent be with you.

Off-Time Jive is slang from the 1920's meaning: To be inappropriate, impolite; to have bad manners.

I stumbled upon on this article on facebook a while back. When I read #59 I thought it would be the perfect blog title for me. Not saying I'm an inappropriate or impolite person, but I wanted to use this as a space where I wouldn't have to always be "social media" perfect. I want this blog to be real. Sometimes I feel like blogging, sometimes I don't. My idea of Off-Time Jive is letting loose and letting go of the stresses of everyday life. I want to enjoy blogging and not have it be something hanging over my head as another chore to tackle. So if it's quiet around here for a bit that's why. I'm only blogging when it will make me happy to do so and I'm really happy that you're reading it. Oh and thanks for not judging my grammar mistakes...ok you may silently judge, but don't tell me.

Alright, now that I've rambled on and on let's move onto something awesome...

STAR WARS PLANTERS!

My In-Laws hooked us up over Christmas with these Star Wars Goblets. We tried using them as coffee mugs for a while, but Trav and I are way too careless with our mugs. For instance there's a collection of mugs taking up residence in my husbands Volkswagen. Plus these goblets aren't dishwasher safe and who has time to hand wash anything these days. I love succulents and you can stuff those suckers in most anything and they'll survive. So just like that Chewy, Vader, Yoda and Mr. Stormtrooper got new hairdos and a new lease on life.

Currently.

Feeling: I can't lie...I've been missing my family and friends in North Carolina. I miss hearing the little squeals and giggles from these two girlies. Isla and Kenley really bonded over our visit last month. Seeing them hold hands, and play together was so sweet. Kenley adores her and I can't wait to get these littles together again.

Doing: I've been hitting the gym pretty regularly this week. Feels so good to run again. I got way off track over Christmas and continued to fall even more off the wagon in North Carolina. One does not simply turn away a Bojangles ham biscuit. Anyway, I'm going a little slower this time around. I started using the Couch to 5k app and so far so good. I'm planning on incorporating some strength training starting on Monday.

Watching: I'm addicted to my 600lb life. It's incredible. Melissa introduced me and whoa...it's nuts. I am fascinated. I get wrapped up in their stories and the obstacles they face as a person weighing that much. Plus it makes me a little more conscious over my own eating habits.

I'm also watching American Idol this year. Go Majesty Rose. She's from my home town and I actually really like her singing and she's adorable. I'll keep watching as long as she's on.

Loving: My husband. Travis Carlson is da bomb. It was tough being away from this guy for almost three weeks. Now that I'm back we've been getting into the swing and routine of our daily lives. It's comforting to have someone you can be boring with. Also, he looks really good in sweatpants (the dude has nice buns) ;)

What are you guys currently up to?

Cold Snap Fever Cactus Re-do

It's freezing in San Antonio. We're experiencing a "cold snap" as meteorologists say, which to me just means "oh snap it's cold!" Below freezing temperatures make me feel pretty listless and dull.
Instead of wallowing in my gloomy state of mind I decided to finally get around to painting my pot.

Before

I bought this cactus at a yard sale and it's spent most of it's life outdoors. It was fine to be a burgundy potted cactus when it was hanging out in my backyard, but that burgundy color was really throwing me off once it was sitting on my favorite bookshelf. I wanted something a little more cheery in my entryway. Something that would say "Hello, glad you're here!"

After

Here it is! I was going for a happy rustic anthropology vibe. I'm kind of digging it. I think it goes nicely with the dark brown bookshelf. I felt like it needed some height so I placed it on top of a stack of books. I'm pleased with this re-do and I'm happy I didn't spend afternoon binge eating and watching a Keeping up with the Kardashians marathon. Win win.

It's funny how a few bits of construction paper can knock you right off your feet.

Kenley and I go to Golds Gym, it's amazing and we love it. She goes to the Day Care Center and I get to break a sweat and refocus. It's been really great for us. She's fascinated by other kids, plus I think she gets tired of looking at my mug all day...the gym is a lifesaver.

Today when I picked her up I got the best surprise.

I could have cried my eyes out when I saw this. She made a little heart and flower for me. I know it was the gym caregiver's idea and let's be honest the woman made it, but it is worth more to me than a sack of hundred dollar bills. It doesn't even bother me that Kenley's name is misspelled. I love it, and I'm getting a little misty eyed thinking about it. Please excuse me, I need a tissue.
